Old Country Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, and Great Food. Traditional Eastern NC Vinegar based BBQ (Pig), Juicy and flavorful without an over powering Vinegar taste. Just the right amount. Good Boiled Potatoes in a traditional eastern NC way. Standard white slaw Good and Meaty Brunswick Stew Chicken was moist and Juicy with a good flavor and char. Definitely recommend trying Stephenson's.

Traditional Carolina BBQ at a fair value and quickly served. There are a lot of local patrons and they have been here for quite some time. The wait staff are friendly and attentive with very quick service and a decent amount of follow-up without being too pushy or bothersome. The chopped pork BBQ is a pretty good example for Carolina style (vinegar base) BBQ. It was tender and succulent while not being overpowered or drowned in the sauce. The hushpuppies are also a very nice fresh treat that is an excellent compliment to the pork. They had an excellent color and crispiness with a very soft and moist interior. The rest of the meal was standard, or maybe a little shy of standard and did not do justice to the BBQ. The chicken was a bit overcooked with the meat having an almost unseasoned boiled taste. The BBQ chicken skin tasted decent, though. The homemade fries were limp and greasy but still had a slight firmness to the interior, not the crisp outside and fluffy interior I expected. The baked beans tasted a little canned, bland with maybe a dash of the vinegar bbq sauce mixed in. All in all, not overly impressed with the complete meal, but the chopped pork BBQ wasn't half-bad.

Went here for my sister in law’s birthday. Chicken was not fresh taste like it had been recycled from the day before, collards were super dry no seasoning, the okra were so so bbq had a good flavor the pieces were too thick needed to be chopped up a little more. My husband got a side of Brunswick stew if that’s what you want to call it. Will not be going back.

If you happen to be in the area runnnnnn, don't walk, to Stephensons BBQ!!!!! Been wanting to try but always closed when I happen to pass by. Yesterday they were open and I got a plate to go and some Brunswick stew and wowwwww am I happy i did!!!!! Didnt disappoint was an under statement. So wishing I had ordered 2 plates and 2 dozen hushpuppies! Omg may be some of the best bbq I've had in a very long time, the huspuppies were perfect, collards were delicious and the potato salad, almost like a cross between mashed potatoes and potato salad, was so creamy and good and well I just don't have enough words. Bottom line go get food from them!

This was a good place! It seems like lots of locals eat here. The prices are really great and the food some out fast (I think the fried chicken takes a while though but its fresh). I've lived in Texas so it wasn't as good as Texas BBQ but it was still good. I'd recommend their pork and their spiced apples. The spiced apples in particular were one of my favorites. The hushpuppies were good too.

Good pork BBQ & excellent hushpuppies. Our daughter enjoyed the chicken tenders & fries (& hushpuppies of course). The spiced apples are especially delicious. My husband enjoyed the collards. Very casual place which is what I prefer. My only real complaint would be the Styrofoam plates bc they're not very good for the environment. Otherwise, everything was great. Good service, good prices, good food!

This is a laid back. Barbecue joint that you can find not far off of I-40. The barbecue is absolutely wonderful. I come from Lexington style BBQ and in particular don't care for Eastern style normally but something is different here and I tend to like it. They also have burgers, hot dogs and dinner plates in case someone doesn't want barbecue. One of the neatest things is that they bring out of picture of teeth or water for you and a bowl of ice. It's that combination of crunchy ice and sweet tea that you tend to love.
